Look at the remote for your DVD player. This instant! Now, does it have a button that looks like this?
That’s the A-B button. Obviously. Have ya ever wondered what it’s for? Have ya ever used it? Have ya ever found a pill on the sidewalk and popped it just for the hell of it?
The A-B button is the most remarkable option available to us in modern technology for two reasons: 1) it allows you to loop any segment of video, endlessly, to uproarious effect; and 2) it’s just too damn good to be true that some off-his-ass (or her-ass!) techie genius convinced the POWERS-THAT-BE that the A-B option was actually worth including on the remote! Because the only true and effective use of it is to amplify the ABsurdity of moments—preferably ones of violent and/or sexual suggestion!—to the point where you may never, ever finish the video because you’re laughing yourself nauseous looping some ridiculous, 5-second jackassery in, say. Face/Off, or Chariots of Fire. YES, YOU—YOU AND YOUR BELOVED A-B BUTTON—CAN MAKE CHARIOTS OF FIRE, FORREST GUMP, AND YES, EVEN CAST AWAY—ESPECIALLY CAST AWAY—ENTERTAINING EXPERIENCES, FOREVER. AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER.
Hit the button—that’s your start point. Let the video run till the batshit crazy moment is over (shorter is generally better, but that argument can get complex). Then hit the button again. The loop is made—now sit back and shit your britches!
Of course the next step is to preserve this A-B moment as a permanent parody for posterity--by editing the loop into a short, shitty film of its own. Please do visit our Facebook page, A-B That Clip. Feel free to post videos on our Wall--either A-B loops you've edited together or potential A-B moments you've found. For the latter, just make sure you tell us the A and B points (i.e. 2:17-2:22) and if it rocks, we'll edit it for you. The best will be posted on our ABoriginals Page--Where The Fans Take Over! QUALITY CONTROL WARNING: If it sucks, your emission will be ABorted!!
